Women’s struggles will be felt through running in heels at the Heels Dash event set to be held at Suncoast Sundeck this Saturday.
The event is aimed at empowering women as they will be fundraising for three women focused charities in Durban.
Creative Director of Raise Your Voice, Karen Van Pletsen, said that they chose running in heels to empower women in the name of fun and engaging the public.
“We look for gimmick or activating that’s fun, engaging and catches the imagination of the public,” she said.
Van Pletsen also said that such events are not new but they are hosted globally.
“Heel Dashes are a global phenomenon that have come to be a symbol of empowerment and solidarity for important women’s causes,” she said.
The event is set to host women empowering organisations such as Zimele, Kerr House and Open Door Crisis Center. These organisations provide shelter, counselling and practical support for women.
Van Pletsen hopes for fun and unity throughout the event.
“This is an opportunity for a diverse cross section of the Durban population to come together and connect in support of a good cause,” she said.
The host of the event is Idols judge and choreographer, Somizi Mhlongo and tons of laughter are guaranteed. Celebrities are also expected to attend in numbers.
Those who wish to participate are encouraged to come in numbers and get involved.
She said: “All are welcome to participate, all they need to do is to arrive at the Suncoast Sundeck at 11am on Saturday with a pair of heels and R40 registration fee.”
