Sewer leak raises concerns on Sparks Road
Residents and motorists travelling along Sparks Road have been complaining about an unbearable stench coming from a sewer leak. The leak could be hazardous as there are feces floating on the road.
Armitha Naidoo who lives nearby and uses Sparks Road regularly said that ratepayers are tired of reporting the same mistake.
“How many times should one report the same leak to the municipality? In two months it has been fixed five times and the very next day the fountain sewer is back. Residents pay rates and all they get is half-finished work,” said Naidoo.
Ward 31 Councillor, Charmaine Clayton said that she had to answer to angry residents asking her when the leak will be fixed. She said that the problem has been fixed more than she can count. However, it keeps overflowing as a result of clogging inside the drain.
“The smell is unbearable. Passing cars are driving over the revolting human feces. Children can’t even play on the streets because of these feces. Municipality has to come with a permanent solution that will fix this sewage issue once and for all. We would like transparency and communication from the municipality,” said Clayton.
The eThekwini Municipality failed to provide comment, despite several attempts to obtain one.
