Sexual harassment scandal in local girls’ school
The KZN Department of Education visited Grosvenor Girls High School in Bluff, south of Durban on Monday after students accused one of their teachers of sexual harassment.
Grade 11 pupils claim that their history teacher allegedly sexually harassed them, and accused them of being Satanists.
Pupils further claim that the teacher fondled their breasts and when they said they would report him, he allegedly laughed and went on to sexually harass more girls.
KZN Department of Education spokesperson, Muzi Mahlambi, said that the department is aware of the situation and had sent officials to the school on Friday to determine the situation.
“We sent officials to the school to calm down the situation, but as yesterday they were at the school doing preliminary investigations and maybe by the end of business today they would have sent a report to the H.O.D to the findings and recommendations,” he said.
The pupils staged a protest calling for the dismissal of the accused, but the principal allegedly called the police to escort the students from the school premises.
Grosvenor Girls’ High School principal, Linda May Jorgensen was not available for comment.
