Suspect linked to the murder of women in Mthwalume commits suicide
One of the two suspects linked to the murder of women in Mthwalume, KwaZulu-Natal, has committed suicide.
The deceased was allegedly in police custody when he committed suicide. He, along with the other suspect, were expected to appear in KZN court today.
Over the past four months, five bodies of women have been found in the South Coast settlements. The people of Mthwalume gathered in numbers outside the court this morning.
Police Minister, Bheki Cele said they have nothing to say about the suicide at the moment, as they do not want to make speculations.
“We will wait for the report of the IPID test, as the law says that if they die in the hands of the police or in the police cells, IPID must investigate. But that has weakened our second case, we had a very strong case against the deceased one,” said Cele.
He said they have sent for four more experts from Pretoria to join the investigating team, as they want to leave no stone unturned.
