Technical glitch hits Capitec clients with unauthorised double deductions

Capitec Bank clients woke up to unauthorised transactions being deducted twice from their bank accounts without their consent on Friday morning.
The technical glitch occurred to clients who utilized another bank card machines that are unnamed yet. The amounts that have been double deducted will be reversed within 24 hours, says Capitec.
“We are aware of the technical issue between us and another bank that has caused Capitec clients who transacted on this bank card’s machines to be double deducted. our IT team is working to rectify the issue. The transactions will be reversed within the next 24 hours,” said the bank in a statement.
There have been complains on social media about the money being taken without the people’s approval. Tumeka Mfisana who is a Capitec Client says that this comes as a shock, waking up to a bank notification saying her money has been deducted while she was sleeping in her home. “I am very disappointed about what happened to my account and I want to block it now. If they do not refund me after 24 hours I am switching to another bank,” Added Mfisana.
On Twitter some shared their sarcastic comments, “Capitec working with Clicks and TreSemme to replace the capital they lost when y’all demanded with the racist ish.” @SneKhumaloSA on a tweet.
Capitec Spokesperson, Charl Nel said that their IT team and the other bank are working together to resolve this as quickly as possible.
Capitec will SMS the affected clients directly and apologizes for any inconvenience caused.
