The SAPS plans to tighten its grip under level 1 lockdown

Police Minister Bheki Cele and the South African Police Service management held a press conference on how to guarantee law enforcement in the in the first phase of the lockdown in Pretoria, on Tuesday.
Minister Cele unveiled law enforcement plans under the first phase of the moratorium reminding the public that the coronavirus is not over and that it is not out of control. The Minister warned restaurant and bar owners that they would sing a song if they did not comply with the lockdown rules.
“I want to remind all the business owners who insist on flouting the rules, the long arm of the law will catch up with you and you will also lose your operating license.” Said the Minister.
Cele says 30 000 individuals have been arrested for violating lockdown laws throughout the country since the beginning of lockdown.
The Minister likewise featured the issue of Gender Based Violence looked by the nation saying it stays a need and they have recognized 30 hotspots of GBV across the country.
The minister reaffirmed its commitment to provide victim-friendly rooms at all police stations for victims of violence.
So far 16 000 police officers have been infected with the corona virus, while 250 police officers have lost their lives to the infection.
