There Is Little Trust over Landfill Site Project
Community members are having doubts on Premier’s decision of sending an investigative team over the fire outbreak in Pietermaritzburg.
Premier of KwaZulu Natal, Sihle zikalala has appointed a team of three Ministers to investigate and find solution to the latest fire outbreak at a Landfill site. The dumping site in New England Road has caused harm to people living in Pietermaritzburg due to smoke coming from there.
Although Zikalala has appointed these three ministers, community members still have their doubts. Amanda Dlamini, a community member said they are happy that the government is finally doing something about this. However, they are not convinced that this project will be a success.
“The government always sends out people to provide services to us, but we never see those services,” she added.
Ministers appointed for this project are: Nomusa Dube-Ncube, Minister of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental affairs, Sipho Hlomuka, Minister of cooperative Governance and Traditional affairs and Ravi Pillay, Minister of Finance in KZN.
These ministers will be working closely with uMsunduzi Municipality. They are to find a safer systematic approach to dump waste. Zikalala also mentioned that they do not want new outbreak of disease since we have covid-19.
