Two high school pupils stabbed to death in KZN
A Grade 11 pupil from Eastwood Secondary School in Pietermaritzburg was stabbed to death by a fellow pupil after an earlier alteration in school, while the other five students were hospitalised on Tuesday afternoon.
On Wednesday morning, the provincial education spokesperson Kwazi Mthethwa told Eyewitness News that there was an apparent revenge attack, where one of the suspects in that matter was killed, allegedly by friends of the deceased grade 11 pupil.
The Department of Education in KZN confirmed that the pupils that were involved were from Eastwood Secondary School and others were admitted to the hospital for medical attention.
“Five learners have been admitted to hospital, one of them is in ICU, Unfortunately, the other one is no more.”
KZN police spokesperson, Jay Naicker said that the school stabbing incident was between two groups of students. It is alleged that two groups were fighting in the Mountain Rise area yesterday at 15:00 when two victims were stabbed.
“An 18-year-old victim died at the scene and the second one was taken to hospital for medical attention. Mountain Rise police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident,” said Jay Naicker.
The police also confirmed that the incident did not occur on school premises and a case of murder and attempted murder was opened at Mountain Rise police station.
The MEC of Education Kwazi Mshengu is expected to visit the school later on Wednesday.
