UKZN student arrested for alleged murder
A 25-year-old suspect from the University of KwaZulu-Natal has been arrested for allegedly murdering a fellow student.
KZN Police spokesperson, Jay Naicker says that Samkelo Zondi was reported missing on the 10th of October by his girlfriend and his body was recovered on Saturday morning by campus securities burning in the bushes near the rugby field on the Westville campus.
“In the early hours of this morning securities noticed smoke emanating from the bushes and saw the suspect emerging from the bushes, he was then apprehended on further investigations the body was found burning in the bushes,” said Naicker.
In a statement, UKZN confirmed that both the suspect and the deceased are students from the institution and appeals to anyone with information to come forward.
“The university has engaged law enforcement agencies to investigate the circumstances around this tragedy.”
The suspect has been detained by the Westville police on charges of murder.
