#VDJ2019 to boost KZN economy
With just two days left until Africa’s premier horseracing and social event – The Vodacom Durban July (VDJ) makes way to the city.
KwaZulu-Natal will roll out the red carpet for visitors from all over the world heading to Durban to attend and spend at the popular occasion.
The regional economy is set to soar with a projected injection of around R300 million. The economy of KZN is expected to strengthen as thousands of racing fans and socialites pour into Durban for the horseracing event which has been running for 123 years.
Palesa Phili, Chief Executive Officer of Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry, says that the occasion will be a highlight on the South African calendar,
“The Vodacom Durban July is one of South Africa’s most respected sporting events and has become a highlight for both South Africans and overseas visitors, who flock to Durban to witness what has become known as Africa’s Greatest Horseracing Event.”
According to Durban Tourism, event visitors are expected to be around 32 191 local residents and 11 683 tourists. The event is predicted to increase tourism contribution to the GDP as domestic arrivals and economic spend increase. The VDJ creates and sustains jobs for Durban citizens as over 400 people are directly employed this year.
The theme ‘Stars of Africa’ will guide all the fashion and decor on Saturday. Fancy Marquees, lavish lounges and parties have social media buzzing as the build-up to the event gets more hype on twitter.
