A woman was left traumatised after she was hi-jacked, when she dropped off her 4 month old baby at crèche, on Monday.
The incident occurred during the day, when Jamie Spoort, a Sydenham resident was getting into her car.
Spoort said, “After I had dropped my child off at crèche, I noticed some men waiting outside but I did not think anything of this because I had assumed that they were also dropping off
“As I got into my car the one man opened the passenger seat and pointed a gun to my head.
The other man got into the backseat and started giving me directions to go to a vacant land near a garage. I just thank God that my child was not with me when this happened and that I
did not sustain any injuries,” Spoort said.
Police Spokesperson of the Verulam SAPS, Melvin Pillay, said that many criminals prey on women who are alone and are unaware of what is happening around them.
He said, “Women are becoming fast targets and are always being hi-jacked.
It is important to always notice who is around you and if anyone is following you.
If you feel that someone is indeed following you, I would advise anyone to drive to their nearest police station or take an alternate route to their destination.”
Pillay added that an investigation has been opened, however no suspects have been arrested yet.
