Ubuciko Bomlomo Infotainment in association with Love Life and Activate Change Drivers hosted a women’s day event in style yesterday.
Young women were given a platform to express themselves artistically at the Build A Woman event in Ntuzuma through music and poetry.
Event organiser, Silindelo Martin said they wanted young women to have a chance of voicing out their thoughts.
“We are allowing women to showcase their talent and express themselves through any forms of art,” he said.
Young poets and artists from the area got the opportunity to perform for their peers. They were also encouraged and motivated throughout the event.
One of the speakers from Activate Change Drivers, Nonkululeko Hlongwane said women need to respect and value themselves.
“Young women should manage their space and should not victimise themselves,” she said.
Hlongwane also emphasised on the importance of personal branding. She said women should
grow their passion by creating businesses out of it.
“Get into business and focus on what you love. That way you’re going to leave a legacy for others to come,” she said.
Activate Change Drivers aims at recruiting and grooming young people into leadership through their passion.
Love Life’s Lungani Sangweni encouraged the youth to get involved in community projects to be counted out of the community’s social ills such as drug addiction.
“It’s important to showcase their talents through sports and art. This way they will not participate in teenage pregnancy and drug abuse,” he said.
He said that Love Life is aiming at creating an HIV free generation and emphasise on the importance of education.
“It is good that the youth is talented, but the talent should be balanced with education and hard work,” he added.
