WORKSHOP LECTURES STUDENTS ON PROFESSIONALISM

“Your image counts for everything.”
This was the message imparted to the Durban University of Technology students by the Nedbank Image Consultants representatives at the Career Magnet workshop at Ritson Campus on Thursday.
The Image Consultant team members each took the stage to share their professional expertise with the students on how to land that perfect job.
The main aspects of the workshop included having the perfect Curriculum Vitae(CV), steps on how to have the perfect personal image, interview/communication skills and how to make the internet a career booster and not killer.
Carrisa Bosman, who was one of the image consultants from Nedbank, said that it is crucial for students to be mentored before they get to the working environment.
“Even though students have the essential knowledge in their field of study, they do not have the necessary skills to get the job of their dreams. Institutions do not offer such workshops, so we thought it best to lend a helping hand and sharpen the students’ professional skills,” she said.
The students were given an opportunity to engage with the panel and network with people relevant to their fields of study.
Business Management student Thabiso Mtshali said that the workshop was informative and fun to be part of.
“The workshop was more like edutainment because we were being educated in a fun and enjoyable manner. All the tips that were given to us will come in handy when we go job hunting next year. I truly appreciate and commend Nedbank for this initiative,” Mtshali said.
Bosman concluded that the relationship with Nedbank and DUT will surely be a fruitful one.
“I believe that if we work together with the institution, we will produce students that will be able to secure jobs due to the skills given to them,” she said.
