YoTaxi invades KZN e-hailing services
Uber and Bolt drivers are fuming, this follows the launch of the new e-hailing service app, YoTaxi which was created by 12 Durban taxi associations.
This innovation is expected to wreak havoc between the taxi associations and the Uber and Bolt drivers as it is alleged that YoTaxi was created to put an end to Uber and Taxify.
A spokesperson for the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Community Safety and Liaison Kwanele Ncalane said that he doesn’t think this competitiveness could result in a war.
“We don’t want what happened in Gauteng to happen in KwaZulu-Natal whereby the taxi drivers burnt cars and started a war against other taxi e-hailing services. We will overlook the situation and also ask the police to assist us,” Said Ncalane.
Ncalane added that they would be in talks with all the necessary parties to prevent a war.
One of the YoTaxi members who asked to remain unknown said that they are not trying to eradicate the Uber and Taxify business however if they want to join YoTaxi, they can.
“The joining fee is R10 000, which includes the registration of the car, uniform, and tools needed to operate,” He added.
YoTaxi charges R7 per KM and the elderly and school children will automatically get 25% off charges.
Over 100 vehicles of the YoTaxi services are expected to start operating on Tuesday.
