In celebration of women’s month, the Durban University of Technology Student Governance and Development Services held its Annual Women’s Day programme on Friday.

Expressing the power that women hold, business woman Zanele Mbokazi said, “Growing up poor is not your choice but dying poor is your choice. As women it is in our hands what we do.
Times have changed; we have a voice, either we use it or not it is all up to us.”
She emphasised on the importance of education and that women should unite and share ideas with one another for the nation to grow.
Lungelo Dlamini, project manager, said that women should not lose their focus on what they want to achieve.
“We live in a tough world where in the industry it’s still a man’s world but now we are the ones who need to change that, having goals and sticking by them and not losing focus is what makes
you succeed in life,” said Dlamini.
Nondumiso Shabangu, a Master’s degree student at DUT, said that success at times means you sacrifice the things you love.
“In order for me to be where I am today, I had to leave my friends because I craved success as a young woman. So for me being on the verge of success is sacrificing what you love,” said
Attendees were entertained with poetry and music.
