Limpopo MEC hits back as “Jerusalema” misses out on SAMAs nominations
Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture in Limpopo, Thandi Moraka, hits back on South African Music Awards (SAMA) after a hit song “Jerusalema” did not get a single nomination.
On her media statement Moraka congratulated Master KG’s success and his hit song for its global trend.
“This is a great achievement and history in the making, Master KG has done well, representing both the province and the country with pride. We are truly humbled with what Master KG has achieved”, read the statement.
However, Moraka shared her views on the matter and feels Master KG’s exclusion on 2020 SAMA’s nominations is not fair. According to Moraka, the song made by Limpopo the born-artist Master KG (Kgaogelo Moagu) featuring Nomcebo Zikode deserves to be nominated, after doing wonders both international and locally since 2019.
“We are disappointed with the fact that Jerusalema and Makhandzi’s Matorokisi were both not nominated for any category in this year’s SAMA’s. This is a serious concern to us because both songs did well in 2019”, she added in her statement.
Jerusalema music video has now reached more than 50 million views on YouTube and it is doing wonders on European and South American charts. Currently in France it is rated number 2, Switzerland number 6, Germany on 29 and Austria sits on number 64. According to Shazam Global Charts, it is currently the 4th biggest song world-wide.
