Remembering Lebo Mathosa

On this day 13 years ago, South Africa woke up to the devastating news of the passing of South African music legend, Lebo Mathosa.
Tonight BET Africa (Channel 129) will air a biographical film based on Mathosa’s life – Dream: The Lebo Mathosa Story. The film will star singer and actress Keabetswe Motsililanyane better known as ‘KB’ in the title role, and Somizi Mhlongo’s daughter, Bahumi Mhlongo, will play the role of a young Lebo.
In an interview on BET, KB mentioned how she was overwhelmed and proud to have portrayed such a life.
“It’s not an easy journey to play this character because it is beyond imagination, it is larger than life. Every day is a new experience and walking in Lebo Mathosa’s shoes, so-to-say is one of the greatest things I’ve ever done,” she said.
Mathosa was well known for being a member of the notorious Kwaito music group ‘Boom Shaka’, the star was also known for her famous hits such as Ntozabantu, I love music, and Awu dede to name a few.
The song bird died in a car crash on the N3 highway near Germiston on the East Rand, in the early hours of the 13th of October 2006, at the tender age of 29.
It was reported that she was flung out of her Toyota Prado when the driver lost control and the vehicle and crashed into a tree. She sustained extensive internal injuries and died on the scene.
The country awaits to savour in the memory of this icon tonight. Dream: The Lebo Mathosa story, will air at 21:30 on DSTV channel 129.
