‘AFREECAN KHONSIRPS’ – A NEW DIMENSION TO DESIGN

A fresh, new and dynamic approach to art and design is how Zukor Zet Ghu and his team approach the world of networking.
The former Interior Design student from the Durban University of Technology (DUT) said that he always had an idea of gathering friends and having a platform to share ideas.
“DUT actually gave me a platform to firstly discover who I am as a person, then I learnt about design. I love all types of design I don’t have a specific qualification in terms of design because I love it as a whole,” Ghu explained.
Ghu strongly believes in spirituality and that we are all created with creativity, which needs to be unearthed.
“I always believed that we are all mustard seeds and we are meant to shine in some way but we are not sure of what we want to be. When I started Afreecan Khonsirps I thought that is what I supposed to do but I was always inspired to do more,” he said.
He had an idea of collaborating with friends and creating a company that generates concepts of coming together and seeing their visions coming true.
The company is a media, design and advertising agency and it initially was called African Footprints, but Ghu later on changed the name to a ‘concept’ that is more relevant to their work.
‘Afreecan Khonsirps’ has a unique meaning behind it. Ghu believes that ‘home is where the heart is’, which is where most of their inspiration for their designs have come from.
“The A in the Afreecan stands for Art and Africa, the ‘Free’ stands for Freedom of expression in everything we do, ‘Can’ stands for I can, we can, you can do anything and the name ‘Khonsirps’ derives from the word concepts but in a different language,” said Ghu.
One of their highlights was when the eThekwini Municipality Mayor, Zandile Gumede, noticed their work at the Regional Business Fair, which was held at the KwaMnyandu Shopping Centre at Umlazi recently.
The teams vision is to inspire others through their work and create a platform of art which Durban can be recognised by.
