BE SURE OF YOUR CAREER

By Nosipho Ntombela
It is not easy to decide what you want to be in life. We have one life and we must be sure of what we decide to do.
Sithokozile Masutha, 20, from Esikhawini Township, said that when she was young she wanted to be a Doctor but later on changed and wanted to be a super model.
“There were so many things that I wanted to do. I thought that when you are old then you can do anything. I never understood that you needed a qualification,” said Masutha It is only when you are older that you realize some dreams you had cannot be fulfilled and in most cases we outgrow such dreams.
There are a lot of things that can stop you from being successful. Sometimes your own family can discourage you from pursuing the career of your choice.
Even after matric there are students who are not sure what they want to do. Some students do not even care if they doing what they love- being in varsity is enough for them, instead of making sure that they are pursuing their desired career and investing in their future.
Lungelo Dube is doing her degree at the University of Pretoria. When she registered in 2012 she was just relieved she got a place in the University. According to her she did not care what she was studying, but the idea of being in the University brought her excitement.
Being a varsity student is not easy. You must be willing to do everything. Nothing must shift your focus and you must be sure that you are doing what you really want because being in the wrong career is very stressful and depressing. Imagine wasting your time on a career you are not interested in?
If you really not sure what you want to do then take a gap year. It is not shameful if you decide to take a year to decide on your career, but it will be a shame to drop out of school because you failed to make a right decision. The year is about to end and we all want to achieve- take this time to do some self-introspection and be sure that you are doing what you love. Life is too short to live thinking what could have been.
Take time and invest in your future.
