The season to be jolly is upon us with memorable Christmas gatherings and explosive celebrations into the New Year.
South Africans are fastening their seatbelts for the most costly season ahead with additional family members coming over to visit, family vacations, and music festivals across the country.
The beginning of the year after this season can become difficult for some families financially, which is why spending your money wisely is very important during this time of the year.
Here are some budget-saving tips that will get you through the festive season:
- Buy what you need
If you are going out shopping make sure that you are armed with a list and try to stick to what is written. Why don’t you shop on a full stomach? This technique may encourage you to buy fewer snacks or things you don’t usually buy and only buy groceries.
- Make use of Black Friday sales
Black Friday falls after Thanksgiving and traditionally kick-starts the holiday shopping season. It will fall on 29 November 2019. Fit bits, sneakers, Hoverboards, Fridges, and Air conditioners are the most searched items during Black Friday, buying such products will save you money for the Christmas gifts.
- Buy in bulk
Buying large quantities of a particular item can save you a lot of money. Some people receive bonuses during this season so buying in bulk is an upfront expense.
- Make use of coupons
When used wisely, coupons can be a way to save money on things you’d buy anyway. But for many shoppers, they’re an excuse to spend so why not use that to buy all the goods with your coupons. Make sure you combine coupons with sales for even bigger savings.
- Find fun home activities to do with the whole family
To replace going out and spending money there are numerous home activities you and your family can participate in to save money like:
- A reading marathon.
- Write stories together.
- Play soccer.
- Paint or draw together.
- Create a fort in your living room out of blankets or cardboard boxes.
- Go on a hike.
- Have a sunset picnic at a park or beach.
