FROM THE JAWS OF DEFEAT TO INCREDIBLE SUCCESS

“I finished school and had to go straight to work as I had no money to study,” said 22-year-old Wassim Yunus.
Having matriculated in 2013 there was no option for Yunus but to go straight to work even though he had a law dream that he really wanted to pursue.
“I’ve wanted to be a lawyer from the time I was in grade 9,” he said.
When Yunus finished high school, he started working at G4S security in the counting house. He worked 12-hour shifts and sometimes even pulled 24-hour shifts but couldn’t complain because he needed the money.
“Everything I ate in the 12 months that I worked at G4S I had to use utensils, my hands were black after touching so much money every day,” Yunus explained.
Due to over exhaustion Yunus left G4S after he fainted at work and was rushed to hospital.
“I worked a 24-hour shift and as I was clocking out I just fell over and next thing I knew, I was in the car going to the doctor and when I got better I resigned,” said Yunus.
Two months later after job hunting, Yunus started a job at Huawei Technologies as a sales representative.
Within the space of two years due to hard work, Yunus has made his way up from a sales representative for one store to becoming an area manager in the Durban South region where he handles six malls. He said that his success is all due to his determination.
“In the two years that I worked as a sales rep I did my best and worked to the best of my ability and I knew if I worked hard my day will come,” Yunus said.
