I AM SIFISO SHANGE, YOU DON’T KNOW ME YET

“I dream with my eyes open.”
One can’t dispute such words coming from young creative Sifiso Shange, who has an eye for interior design.
The self-proclaimed dreamer is a former drug addict and has come a long way. Shange comes from a lively, talkative family of five.
“Our loud personalities kept us through tough times,” said the 23 year-old designer from Newlands West.
He has obtained his Diploma as an Interior Designer and will be graduating Cum Laude. Shange was also one of the head designers of the DUT City Campus refurbishment.
Asked if he was always a bright student, Shange said he always knew he was intelligent but got distracted along the way. He got involved with drugs in high school, causing him to lose focus.
His journey through drug addiction has changed his life and has made him a better person.
“Substances don’t fix your problems. You should learn to deal with your problems and accept them, to move on. Drugs are never the answer,” he said.
He added that in his prayers he always prays that God blesses him with intelligence.
Shange said he drew his motivation from people in general, as his designs always have people in mind. He wants to change people’s lives through design. Shange is not only an interior designer but also a blogger, using his blog as a platform to share designs with international creatives.
“I want to die knowing I have changed someone’s life. I would rather die a legend than live alone,” said Shange. “Interior Design has become my life. I can apply the principals of design to my own life.”
Shange doesn’t know exactly what the future holds, but he has a feeling that it’ll be good.
“I have been an underdog for too long. I have a good feeling something big will happen this year. Many people don’t know me yet, but I know I will be a household name in the near future,” he said.
