Jashmir – Jack of all trades
Jashmir is a DJ, producer, graphic designer, content creator, and Apple software whiz… at 20!
Jashen Joel Govindsamy, also known by his stage name, Jashmir is the youngest East Coast Radio(ECR) resident DJ on The East Coast Party Central segment hosted by J’sbu.
He became more recognised after he started creating meme remix videos that went viral on social media. Inspired by producers like KSHMR, Metro Boomin, and Ronny J, Jashmir is capable of producing all genres of music but he chooses to focus more on Hip-hop and Trap. He released his first solo Extended Play record (EP) in September this year, titled Memories. The EP reflects on a reminiscent past and brings out emotion with spine chilling melodies and euphoric vocals on the tracks.
“I made this EP with a lot of hidden messages that only I know of and it will always be a very special project to me,” said Jashmir.
His talent for the audible arts got him recognised by industry giants such as Nasty C as he was one of the DJs that opened for Nasty C on his Ivyson Tour last year. He’s also had one of his hit tracks, “That’s A Lot’ featuring JLJ and The Fraternity chartered on Channel O and MTV Base.
“It’s the best feeling doing all of this while I’m so young cause every day is a mystery. You don’t know own when it’s going to be your last so take every opportunity you get now,” said Jashmir.
Like most millennials, Jashmir is ambitious and plans on furthering his knowledge in software development and enhancing his music career by headlining more destinations and receiving more recognition. He also plans on using his talent to help change his hometown, Chatsworth.
“I plan on making more inspirational music to help the kids that are going through depression. It’s really sad to see kids go through this at such a young age. I want to give them events and music like what I had when I was growing up so they don’t fall into this dark world,” said Jashmir.
