Meet the founder of Naledi Gin
When 18-year-old Tshiamo Nche is not doing music and playing instruments, she’s spending time being an extraordinary teenager.
The entrepreneur from Naledi extension 2 in Soweto has her own gin brand named after her community as a means to put her neighborhood on the map. Also a student at Rosebank College studying Accounting, Nche wants to have multiple streams of income to bring change to her community.
“Naledi Gin” has not only represented the township of Soweto but has captured the hearts of so many people, amazed by the passion of the teen including hotels that want to support local alcohol brands. She says it took time to get ingredients for her product but great things required patience.
“My business is really growing fast. I get calls any time of the day. The exposure I have received is also because of people who shared my product. I’m grateful to them,” she said.
Nche says being as young as she is entering such a tough male dominated industry was really intimidating but her determination and passion kept her going. The young lady is definitely growing with her business preparing for the future. She lives life not to impress and that is her daily mantra.
“If I listened to people, I wouldn’t be here. My advice to young people is to stop lingering on the past and grab opportunities right in front of them. Don’t start a business to show off to people, do it for yourself. It is rewarding,” Nche added.
The teen is a great influence to her peers showing people that you do not need to get to a certain age in your life to start a business. The love of young people wanting to develop their community indicates a prosperous future for South Africa.
