A new study by the Hair Transplant Centre, Crown Clinic, has revealed that middle age crisis may occur as early as at the age of 35 for both women and men, trumping the assumption that it hits people around their 40’s.
You know that time when you realize that your life is half way over and you decide to catch-up with all the things you wouldn’t want to die before trying? Well that’s midlife crisis!
People going through this stage in life do everything but admit to it, and mostly feel offended if they hear anyone mentioning that they might be going through midlife crisis.
Apparently if you are older than thirty five and just decided to get yourself a tattoo, especially when you have never been into tattoos previously, unfortunately that is one of many listed signs of middle age crisis.
This might be because there is no way one can explain the sudden interest in things that are totally out of one’s character.
Buying new gadgets, getting a sports new car and getting involved in extreme sports are some of the things men suffering from a middle age crisis may do. Not forgetting the urge to date younger women!
For women it is assumed that a change of closet by adding more colour and shorter clothes, cutting and dying their hair is a sign. Many of us will agree because I think we’ve all met “these” women.
The Crown Clinic study has added checking exes on Facebook as part of the parcel.
Some “dramatic” appearance changes like Botox injections can highlight a woman’s approach to midlife crisis.
Studies have shown that women go through midlife crisis earlier than man. It might be because of unstable hormones preparing for menopause.
Some people have suggested that midlife crisis is just a myth, but how do you explain the fear of transformation- people run away from getting old by doing things that make them feel and look young.
Ironically, this is the exact opposite feeling teenagers feel when they are at an adolescence stage- the urge to look older and mature.
The special part of these two life stages is that you can’t see it, but people around you can tell that you are going through a phase.
According to a blog called Personal Tao, Middle age crisis is a combination of feelings, events and physical changes that indicate a transformation is at hand.
The symptoms or signs may occur due to the list of expectations one has set for her or himself to meet before a certain age. And when the time set passes without one meeting the expectations, here comes the crisis.
The unfortunate part of midlife crisis is that it may tear people apart; this might be why most people get divorced at this stage. The sudden change of character may force people out of love.
One may want to go back to the past as it might make them feel younger, like partying all night, chasing after past partners and longing to date younger people.
Middle age crisis is suspected to last from two to seven years but there are unique cases in different people.
I bet the solution will not be counting down the time you are experiencing the crisis but trying not to dedicate your time and strength to it.
Focusing on what life brings may help forget about midlife crisis, like the success and achievements of your kids and welcoming grandkids.
In some cases midlife crisis may go as far as causing depression, it is important that those who witness it spearing out of control in people close to them to seek for professional help.
