NOSTALGIC MOMENTS HIT THE SHELVES
By: Sbongakonke Mbatha
The Soil’s second studio album, Nostalgic Moments, was made available on the shelves of every music store around the country on Monday the 22nd of September, but it was released officially on iTunes seven days prior.
The soulful sounds of The Soil, signed under Native Rhythms, has once again produced a classical, ‘kasified’ album that retrenches their signature sound and stands as a true reflection of their growth in their craft and in the industry.
Songs available on the album include Mkhululwa, New Year’s resolution and Asante Sana Tanzania which the crowds were already familiar with from The Soil’s tour around the country while promoting their live DVD titled Reflections Tour-Live in Johannesburg.
The fresh beats of this new album include collaborations with South Africa’s renowned Ladysmith Black Mambazo in a track titled ‘Hamb’uyosebenza’ which was a dream come true for the trio. The trio’s signature sound still echoes through this album. Tracks like ‘Andinanto’ reinforce the group’s deep spiritual connect to God and nature. The track also shows how much they have grown and matured.
The synchronization of their voices and a sprinkle of drums from Kgontse makes Mkhululwa an instant sing-along. Even though the song is sung in Xhosa and has a Xhosa beat, their execution is universal enough for persons of any racial group to relate to the story told in the song. The entire album has exceeded all expectations and the cover of the CD is as attractive as what is available inside.
The Soil’s second album is a definite ‘must buy’ and all Soil fans will most definitely be entertained.
