SOULED OUT- REVIEW
Jhene Aiko bravely stretches out her heart and soul to the world in her new album, “Souled out”, of which she should be applauded. However, if you aren’t really into deep soul music or rap, you wouldn’t really enjoy her very different and unusual style of music.
There is something very courageous and admirable about being able to step out, be different and be your own person. To do that you really have to step out your comfort zone and not being afraid to be called different. This Los Angeles native has been featured in many other famous and admirable artists hit songs such as Drake, Childish Gambino, No- ID, Ab-Soul, and Kendrick Lamar. With her beautifully artistic “Souled out”, she has gained an escalating amount of fans, creating a demand that’s grown enormously over 2014.
Through her music she tells a story that every girl is experiencing, from relationships, family and just ordinary life. As she sings with her soft, light angelic voice, her words in the songs say something else as she stabs with hard hitting, gangster words and slang. One of her songs with Childish Gambino called Bed Peace is a one song that shows a lot of love in a relationship but at the same time talks about wanting space and being her own person.
The entire album is a feeling that warms up to you when you also reflect on your life decisions and where you are going as a female. Yes, she did this one for the ladies in my opinion. To her sexier and jam packed emotion song is one she did with Kendrick Lamar called “stay ready”. This song talks about being ready to be in a serious adult relationship and has a short outro at the end called “What a life”, that speaks of life as a beautiful thing and that everything that you go through is meant to be for your happiness and to be who you are.
Apart from being a talented singer, she is also a very talented songwriter. Jhene Aiko’s true blessed calling is in her song writing skills as she sings her own songs and she doesn’t sing any simple lyric written by any songwriter She sings with meaning that sooths you and helps you understand life .
Even though it is very easy to fall in love with this soul star’s album, it is also very hard to understand if soul isn’t really your style of music. The fact that the album is also talking about women issues with love and life, men can easily dislike the album for its more feminine messages and sound.
Aiko has been recently compared to the likes of Sade and Erykah Badu in terms of her look and sound by her viewers on Youtube. Jhene Aiko’s soft and nurturing sound should not be mistaken for anything as she can show how gangster and strong she actually is through her music.
