Getting fit and staying fit is ultimately up to you. No one can do it for you and it’s a choice you make. Exercising increases our energy levels. Our bodies release ” Happy Hormones” called endorphins when we exercise.
These give us that feel good feeling after being active and help us to have a more positive outlook. If you exercise in the morning, you’re energy levels will be higher all day People underestimate the power of fun, especially when it comes to working out. You don’t have to be extremely serious to be focused. In fact, a recent study revealed that if you’re not having fun, you’re more prone to snack.
Try something like Zumba, or go to the gym with friends. Durban University of Technology gym supervisor Mfundo Mdebe said that exercise doesn’t have to be drudgery. You more likely to stick with the fitness programme if you have fun.
“If you’re not enjoying your workouts, try something different. Join a volleyball or softball league. Take a ballroom dancing class or join the martial arts centre,” said Mdebe.
Sfiso Ndlovu, a gym member, said it is important to make gym or fitness activities part of our lives. Everything we do should be a work out.
“If it’s hard to find time for exercise, don’t fall back on excuses. You can also slip in physical activity throughout the day. Take the stairs instead of the elevator or do strength training exercises while you watch TV at night,” said Ndlovu Working out can help to lower chances of getting some life threatening diseases like cancer, diabetes and heart diseases – our hearts are muscles.
Themba Sokhulu shared that exercising is not only about muscles- it also helps your body fight diseases.
“Gym is not about achieving big muscles but it about constantly training your body. Eat accordingly and your body will also take care of you,” said Sokhulu.
There are so many ways of being more active and getting more exercise, there really is no excuse. Before you know it you’ll be reaping the rewards of a fitter, healthier lifestyle.
