XTLS- MAKING NATURAL BEATY A WORLDWIDE TREND

By: Sbongakonke Mbatha
Thanks to XTLS( Extreme Twist Lock & Style) has destroyed the stereotype of dreadlocks are no longer regarded as an unattractive, untidy and smelly hairstyle meant for a certain ‘type’ of people.
Dreadlocks are now a trend. A story of natural hair told in different styles that turn heads. XTLS has taken over many salons around Durban with their unique ability of turning relaxed hair into dreadlocks. They are a movement that has redefined the beauty of natural hair.
Samkelo Ngcobo, a dreadlock stylist, who works for one of XTLS’s Durban franchises on Albany Street, says that dreadlocks are the first hairstyle that has managed to stay relevant throughout centuries.
“Dreadlocks have been around since the dawn of time. Ancient Egyptians wore them, ancient Asians wore them, cavemen wore them, the Baptist and Samson wore them, and at XTLS we are taking dreadlocks to another level,” said Ngcobo.
The XTLS brand has grown over the country. They offer outstanding service to an array of clientele in need of their expertise. They have no specific target market since their specialty appeals to people of all ages and races in both genders.
They cut and join dreadlocks, do dreadlocks arrangements as well as highlights and dye. R180 leaves your hair looking beautiful and neat for months.
“I chose to do dreadlocks after a long history of being burnt by hair relaxers. I used to spend close to R500 per month on relaxers and weave plants that couldn’t last for two months, but with dreadlocks I save a lot. There is less pain to being beautiful,” said Nomonde Ndlanzi, a regular XTLS customer.
Dreadlocks are now a signature style, re-conceptualising black, affordable beauty.
