Young but not young-minded, Ayavuya taking the business world by storm
The 19-year- old vegan smoothie business owner, Ayavuya Sibisi is ready to climb the success ladder and is more than ready to achieve more in the business sector. She said that, this is just a doorway to more businesses.
Tropical Smoothie Paradise is situated in the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, Howard campus.
Sibisi is not just an ordinary young business owner, she is also a full-time student at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, studying towards Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology and Linguistics. Regardless of both these tasks being time consuming, she is still very able to balance her school work and the life of being an entrepreneur.
She is not like just any other ordinary teen, but she seeks and aims to change the narrative and most importantly inspire those coming after her.
The urge for developing a success-oriented mind-set comes after she unfortunately lost her stepfather due to taxi violence. Her stepfather was the only father figure that she had since she lost her biological father at the mere age of two. After this inhumane incident of being stripped of the only father figure that she had, and her mom being in prison, Sibisi was forced to boss up and come up with a way of ensuring that her siblings are well taken care off.
Sibisi started the smoothie bar business, because she wanted to change the narrative for her bloodline, the narrative being, it’s either you get arrested or you die of taxi violence. So she ventured into a very unique and a safer business of selling 100% vegan smoothies not the one that claimed the life of her stepfather.
Sibisi further stated that, her smoothie business is a way of showing her love and honouring her mother because when she was home she used to make smoothies for them. Smoothies remind her of the priceless moments and the love that her mother showered them with while they lived in Limpopo, she added.
Though she lost her stepfather due to taxi violence, she is however, still very grateful to have gone through such an experience because it left her no choice but to toughen up and be resilient. Had it not been of the taxi business experience, she wouldn’t have developed the mind-set that she has today, she said.
Sibisi said age and background shouldn’t limit You, you’re capable, you can do anything that you set your mind on and you can only achieve that through consistency and hard work. She encourages young women her age and women in general to boss up.
Asanda Majozi, one of her regular customers cannot seem to shut her mouth about how edible and mouth-watering these smoothies are. She said, she is very happy with the smoothies and intends on buying more.
“What I like the most about these smoothies is, they’re made from fruits which makes them 100% vegan. They can give you the zest and the energy boost that you need for hours, it doesn’t just give you the energy but it keeps your tummy full so that helps a lot as we’re constantly tempted to eat junk because we don’t have time. When I’m rushing somewhere I know I can grab a smoothie and I’m sorted for a day,”
Another customer, Vamisa cannot stop raving about how delicious the smoothies are. He says they’re blended with love and they’re good if you’re trying to live a healthy lifestyle and they’re very affordable
“These smoothies are very good for a person’s wellbeing and their immune system so I really encourage people to start consuming them on the daily basis,” Vamisa added.
