By Mhleli Mkhize
The Durban University of Technology’s department of housing hosted its first gala dinner at the institution’s sport centre on Friday evening.
The department will host the event annually.
Their aim was to empower and educate students about taking initiative while in residences.
The event was graced by Zikhona Tywabi who is currently doing her D-Tech in chemistry as the guest speaker. She urged students to utilise their time in residence wisely.
The evening was packed with different activities including motivational speakers, drama and comedy.
Students got the opportunity to engage with one another sharing ideas. Organisers of the event were impressed by large numbers in attendance.
Director of student housing, Dr Theophilus Mhyassengo applauded the initiative as he thought it was a good platform for students to engage.
He said, “it is impressive to see students gathered together sharing ideas, I hope they listened to what was said and would put it into practice in order for them to make staying in residence fruitful.”
