A YOUNG STAR ON THE RISE
By: Benedict Msibi
She is a young girl with an amazing singing talent which has given her recognition.
Sandra Majola (11), known by her stage name Lasandra, is a beautiful and energetic young lady with a bubbly personality. Majola is dedicated to her music and strives to do her best in everything she does.
She comes from a family of five in Newlands East and is currently doing her sixth grade at Morningside Primary School.
Music is in her blood as she is raised by musicians and they have been supportive towards her talent. Her mother Ourial Majola, who is a music teacher and manager, decided to quit her Opera singing career just to focus on making Lasandra’s dream come true.
“Lasandra is very talented, that’s why we as her family decided to support her with everything she needs. What we like about her is that she is a hard worker and she knows that education comes first than her music,” said her mother.
At such an early age, Lasandra has achieved great opportunities that others have not yet achieved. She has performed for government officials including the President Zuma himself.
Her voice has also been listened to by the MEC of Transport Willies Mchunu and the Durban Mayor James Nxumalo at the launching of Go Durban Gala Dinner.
In November last year, she was invited to perform at the ANC Gala Dinner which was held at the ICC in Durban.
When she opens her mouth and starts singing, people literally leave everything that they are doing and listen to her. Sizakele Ngqulunga, is one of the people who have seen this young lady singing and she couldn’t stop talking about this young girl’s talent. “It was for the first time I saw such a young person singing so perfectly like Lasandra. I usually see such people in television, that girl is going far with her music,” said Ngqulunga.
The young songstress is inspired by the likes of the late Brenda Fassie, Whitney Houston and Beyonce Knowles. She has released a hit single and a dvd titled ‘My Beliefs’ where she features Durban’s well-known producer and rapper Lacostaration.
She is still looking forward to working with many local talents, more especially House music deejays because she is more into doing vocals.
Apart from being a musician Lasandra attends Ballet classes, plays hockey and does shopping with her family. Lasandra said that her religious background has also contributed to her success.
“I love God, I trust in Him, without Him I wouldn’t have got this voice. I also know that with God everything is possible and He will take me far and all my dreams are going to come true because He is an awesome God,” stated Lasandra.
Currently Lasandra is looking for a record deal from any music company. Her links and music videos are available on the internet and on YouTube.
