DigiFest’s first ever virtual exhibition
The Durban University of Technology, hosts its first virtual Digital festival exhibition.
The 7th edition of DUT’s faculty of Arts and Design DigiFest’20 is held as a virtual event from the 4th to the 6th of November 2020. The theme for this year is Synergy, which means an interaction of two or more things to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects.
The events Aims for this year is to promote collaborative practices across art, design and technology.
Speaking to the host of the event SamaJobe Sithole, he explained that the event has gained a bigger audience this year.
“Hosting DigiFest online is different because we are able to have guests from around the world, including international audiences, and what is different about this year’s event is the fact that everything is done online even the launching of DigiFest 2020,” he said.
The virtual exhibition will be using virtual gallery to showcase and celebrate creative projects that align with the event theme. Exhibitors include DUT students and staff, other institutions and industry in and outside South Africa.
Nontando Mhlongo, DUT Journalism Student who attended the event said “Due to the pandemic, I was a bit taken back to the fact that the DigiFest will no longer be a physical contact event. However the online experience has been amazing. I attended the radiocracy segment yesterday and it was very informative. My expectations were exceeded with the amount of knowledge I garnered,” she said.
She further explained that “today being the last day I hope to learn more about how the new norm and technology will continue to merge. The transition from traditional media to new media is no longer a term we’ll meet in the future, but it’s happening now and rapidly,” said Nontando
