Have you ever been a green peace lover? Or, wanted to make a contribution to our beautiful planet?Well, here is your chance! The GlobalDay of Action in collaboration with Green Peace Africa gives Durbanites an event for a cause.
Ice Ride Durban is an event that is a part of the Green Peace Global bike ride that is scheduled to take place on the 15th of September 2013 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium from 8:00am until 12:00pm.
The event is aimed at bringing awareness to the arctic and to challenge big oil companies as well as celebrate the beauty of our world.
All participants will ride from Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban central to Blue Lagoon along the promenade and are urged to have flags on their bikes to show their commitment to the fight to save the Arctic.
Neoka Naidoo, coordinator of the event said, “The Arctic is warming faster than the rest of the globe and is experiencing some of the most severe climate impacts on Earth. The Save the Arctic campaign is aimed at protecting the arctic oceans and all life that lives in it. The arctic sea is endangered by a number of problems, namely: oil drilling, industrialized fishing and climate change. We are running this campaign to make people all over the world aware of the danger that we’re faced with and the impact of losing the arctic will have on the rest of the earth.””There has not been much of a response but I am excited, as this is a global day of action. Twenty Five countries and 71 cities riding, walking, jogging all to bring awareness of the plight that the arctic is in,” added Naidoo.
All participants are required to have a white t-shirt on the day of the ride as well as helmets. Failure to produce the two will result in no participation. Help your environment by joining in on the bike ride and spreading the word.
