A second year student from the Durban University of Technology is one of the Top 25 contestants for this year’s Mr South Africa competition.
Ndumiso Goodman Shandu, (24), is doing his second year in Information Technology at DUT and he is one of the 25 finalists who entered for Mr SA.
Shandu’s modelling career started in 2012 when he joined Famous Cosmi Black (FCB). He did a number of photo shoots and took part in fashion shows.
He said he has always been interested in modelling. He found out about the Mr SA competition after he joined FCB and also through shows and meetings with other models.
“I looked for their page on Facebook and started following them. I read from the page that the competition for 2014 was going to start early January this year, so I decided to enter the competition,” Shandu said.
Humble, down to earth and soft hearted, as most people would define this hunk who hails from the rural areas of Eshowe, has won the hearts of many people with his personality.
“I entered Mr South Africa because I wanted to make a difference in the lives of my local community in Eshowe, by using the platform to help me raise funds to plant vegetable gardens. I want to become a positive role model in the lives of young men, showing them the path to becoming a man of honour,” he said.
In 2013 he entered a number of competitions, including the Mr/Miss Fresher DUT, Mr/Miss Inter- Res DUT, Mr/Miss Green Campus Initiative (GCI), Mr/Miss Eshowe 2013 and Mr/Miss Dulcet 2013.
Shandu who is under a modelling agency called Glamorous Models is also a last 30 finalist for KZN Top Model which will take place late September.
Ndumiso said he believes that he can make it far in any competition because he is ambitious about modelling.
Cosmic Black, who is a professional photographer and the owner of FCB said he sees a great future ahead for Ndumiso.
“When I first met Ndumiso, I was mesmerized by how humble and respectful he was. I see him as family and my biggest wish is to see him prosper in life,” said Black.
