Students from the Durban University of Technology (DUT) have high expectations for this year’s DigiFest that is going to place this coming weekend.
DigiFest is a Faculty of Arts and Design (FAD) initiative that seeks to promote uptake, adoption and entrepreneurship in the creative, visual and performing arts.
Following last year’s event that took place at DUT’s City Campus which was a huge success, FAD students are more than ready to showcase what they have been working for the past 12
The festival aims at making sure that students and graduates of DUT’s Faculty of Arts and Design are identifiable by their engagement with local contexts, and by their ability to
navigate a constantly evolving global playing field.
Sfundo Mngadi, a Video Technology student said that he likes the vision that the FAD is trying to push, because it helps students get to know one another’s strengths at an early stage.
“When I get to work I’m obviously going to want a graphic designer or a make-up artist because I do film and this initiative is making it easier for each and every last one of us
because we building relationships already,” said Mngadi.
Zeenath Adams, a jewellery design student at the school added that it was the first time she heard of the festival.
“Although I wasn’t here last year I think it’s a good platform,” said Adams.
“I love the theme because as individuals we design a certain piece all based on a personal story, someone’s story or something we share as a nation,” she added.
The festival encourages every student to take part as it showcases each student’s talent, but Ntembiso Velleman, a first year graphic design student, said that for this year he is going to
be involved by volunteering and only next year he might showcase something.
“I am unfortunately not showing anything at this year’s festival but I am volunteering which I’m excited about because I enjoy helping and I’m compensating for not having anything to
show,” said Velleman.
The Faculty of Art and Design’s DigiFest takes place on the 11th and 12th September 2015.
This year’s theme is ‘Your story –My story – Our story’
