Durban’s fashion designers who run and own small boutiques hosted a fashion show festival this past weekend at Sucasa Lounge, Resevoir Hills
Well-designed garments from the likes of Verdetto, Afro’Zee, MaGoo and many more were received with applause from the mesmerized fashion lovers who were attending the function.
“We expected more people- I think we didn’t advertise very well but we are happy with the number of people who came for the show. Those who didn’t come really missed out on the latest trends for summer,” said Johnson.
The designers kicked off the showcase with their winter collection, and then moved on to casual and finished with the summer collection.
Thabani Ngcobo, a fashion lover and rapper, said the event started out slow but gained momentum as the people started to flood in.
“At first I thought I have wasted my money by coming here, but it turned out alright. I just can’t wait for the after party,” said Thabani.
Sphe Nzama, the brains behind the whole festival, described the event as a great opportunity for young designers to show off their skills and what they offer.
“This was a great way to get our work out there; the garments were amazing and we are working on making this event a regular thing,” said Nzama.
The fashion show was followed by an after party that gave hip-hop artists a chance to entertain the crowd. Vukile Meyiwa, member of a hip-hop trio called GVO, which stands for Gods Very Own, said he was more interested in the Twerking competition slated for the after party.
“This the first time I get to see a twerking competition- from what I have seen in the music videos I’m sure its going to be epic,” Meyiwa said.
