FOR THE LOVE OF MUSIC

The KZN Youth Choir held their fundraising concert at Clifton College this week to raise funds for their international choir festival set to take place in Florence, Italy, from the 14th until the 28th of July 2013.
Back in 2011, the choir came back with a total of seven medals from the Antonio Vivaldi Choir Competition in Greece.
Judging from the high turnout, one could sense the excitement from the choir master and the choristers that this would be an evening to remember. The concert kicked off with Hendrik Hofmeyers “Desert sun” classical piece which set the tone on what was to be expected.
Next on the lime light was an ethnic piece of “amarabi”, “Saphela isizwe” performed by the choir and their impeccable choreography that got a few parents ulilating.
The highlight of the evening went to Pearl Khwezi who sang a solo “Lacrimosa” by Calixto Alvarex.
For the love of music various choristers from Empangeni and Newcastle come together to practice every evening on Fridays at the Durban Girls College.
With all the dedication the choir has put in, it’s unfortunate that some choristers won’t be able to attend the tour in Italy due to lack of funding.
“We have prepared really hard, it’s my first time going on tour and we are a wonderful bunch and family,” said Ndumiso Njapa, student representative of the choir.
Journalism Iziko sends out well wishes to the choir for their upcoming tour and hope that they bring back the gold.
