Giddy up fashionistas
Ready, set, go! The red carpet is rolled out for the ‘Stars of Africa’ at the Durban July.
The theme this year is inspired by Africa and all it stands for. Designers were sketching for fashion statements to show their own interpretation of the concept.
One of the invited designers, Mxolisi Mkhize, from The House of Saint Luke will be showcasing his interpretation of the theme alongside seven other esteemed designers.
He says that designers should explore the idea of ‘Stars 0f Africa’ that have contributed to Africa being known as the place to be and where people seek inspiration.
“Don’t only look at African print only, think of Nelson Mandela, the star of Africa who contributed to the world and made Africa known. You think of Mam’Miriam Makeba, Brenda Fassie, Yvonne Chakachaka all these people have contributed in the music industry, not only in South Africa but in Africa and then the world,” he said.
As South Africans add their final touches to their outfits and last-minute bookings, the event will take place at the famous Greyville Racecourse on Saturday.
