IDOLS SA TOP 10: GIRLS VS BOYS

By: Michelle Harripersadth
Idols SA fans had their say last night at the results show when they chose their Top 10 girls for Season 9.
After Sunday’s performances, it is safe to say that the girls will be giving the Top 5 boys a run for their money. During the course of Sunday’s show, judges Unathi Msengana and Garreth Cliff said that if the Top 16 was a mixed performance night and if the boys and girls were not separated, the top 10 would only be girls.
Crystalene Nair ended Sunday’s show with a showstopping number from Selena Gomez called ‘Come and get it’. After Nair’s performance, judge Randal Abrahams said, “Christina, Tumi, Crystalene and Bunny would safely be in the top 10.”
A few minutes into last night’s live show, Abraham’s prediction was correct. Four out of the five spots in the Top Ten were filled.
Former Idol contestant, Graeme Watkins performed “Soldier On” with his group called The Graeme Watkins Project at the live show. The former Season 5 contestant proved to South Africa that you do not have to win the contest to be a success. Another former contestant that made a name for himself after competing in the contest is SAMA award winner Lloyd Cele.
As the show came to an end, the bottom four were called on stage where the fifth and final position in the top 10 was filled. Amy and Zoe were the final two and as the host Proverb weighed the pros and cons of the talented singers, there was only one spot to be filled and Zoe took the last position with her sassy Fantasia performance that blew the crowed away.
Fans took to the Idols SA facebook page by saying: “My top 3 boys did not make it, but my top 3 girls did! Well done to all five of the ladies – and keep up the good work,” said Petro van Rooyen. Anele ‘Anza’ Mandela said, “So stocked my top 5 made it. The guys better watch out this Sunday.”
The Top 10 Idols Contests is as follows – Bunny, Tumi, Christina, Brenden, Musa, Zoe, Crystalene, Benjamin, Innocent and Sonke. The battle of the sexes continues.
