Durban is set to host yet another big event on the entertainment calendar, the KZN Music Imbizo at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in August.
The 8th Annual KZN Music Imbizo is a fast growing international music business conference and exhibition. Its mission is to create and sustain an independent platform that encourages open dialogue, networking, exhibiting and showcasing of talent.
The 2016 edition is a mix of business to business plus business to consumer networking where they cater for the music industry professionals and the fans.
Siphephelo Mbhele, project manager said, “Our 2016 theme is: Africa, my beginning … building a sustaining music industry in the continent. The world is looking at Africa for inspirational and different sound. Our cultures are diverse and full of gems that many have exploited over the years.”
“How do we present and tell our own story? How does the new generation of music entreprenuers and artists take ownership of who we are as people? This is what the theme will seek to put forward as a discussion,” explained Mbhele.
Some objectives of the KZN Music Imbizo are to establish a platform for the industry to interact with government, the media and private sector, to establish a platform for big corporates to do business with the music industry, to expose the provincial stakeholders to national and international opportunities, and to partner and help fulfill some of the objectives of the Department of Arts & Culture, Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA), National Youth development Agency (NYDA), Department of Trade & Industry (DTI) and other initiatives that exist to uplift small business and to provide business-to-business networking and mentorship.
Durban hosts many major events but Mnqobi Mthethwa, PR & Media represenntative, thinks that this event is more than just your ordinary music event.
“The KZN Music Imbizo is a fast growing international music business conference that looks at the value chain of the industry. It is not about a genre or a certain brand of music. The conference caters from industry people whilst looking after up and coming music business entrepreneurs,” stated Mthethwa.
Future plans for the Imbizo include attracting international brands and speakers.
