The Youth of Lindelani, Inanda, Ntuzuma and KwaMashu (LINK) gathered together to showcase their talent, when the Armstrong Entertainment hosted the Durban Heavy Weight Hip Hop music festival at Inanda Newton (A) on Sunday.
The main aim of the event was to give an opportunity to upcoming artists to showcase their talent.
Wonderful Buthelezi, organizer of the event, said that they wanted to discover new talent.
“We want to bring the youth of LINK together, to create unity through music and there is a lot of talent here,” said Buthelezi.
Groups from these townships were present to sing and rap.
Adeeh Sosibo, A Hip Hop DJ from Inanda FM said, “This event was such a good idea because it brightens the future of our youth; through music one can express their feelings. Music is like therapy that one uses to heal himself”.
Senzo Ngcobo was the overall winner of the competition.
“When I heard about this competition I was so excited, but when I listened to the first performance I was so nervous because of the number of people performing and also seeing that Ntokozo Zakwe also known as “Zakwe” in the industry is one of the judges since he is doing well in the game,” said Ngcobo.
“The audience was awesome, young and energetic. That encouraged us to give them all our best performances,” added Ngcobo.
Famous Hip Hop star, Ntokozo Zakwe said, “Hip Hop music helps the development of speech and memory; it is one of the best hobbies the youth can do, instead of indulging in drug and alcohol.”
