Lerato Molapo, professionally known as ‘Lira” is not only producing soulful music but also she’s a motivational speaker.
We sat down with the beautiful and humble Lira to talk about her music journey, women empowerment and her autobiography titled ‘Making HerStory’.
“I really believe each and every one of us have their own story. You have the power to rewrite your own story, where you come from does not determine where you end up. You can literally rewrite your destiny,” said Lira.
After two years in an office environment, she realised she was missing out from her bigger dreams which was to entertain the masses locally and internationally. Soon after she left to pursue her music.
The platinum selling singer has quite a lot of titles to add to her name. At the age of only 16 years she matriculated and also has a tertiary educational background as she believes that talent without education is not everything.
“My professional career started as an accountant and that is where I appreciated the cooperative structure and the understanding of how cooperate works,” added Lira.
When asked about her views on children and women abuse, Lira was very vocal.
“Firstly, we all know it’s a serious problem because girls in that positions are disempowered. It’s in a space where they almost feel like they have no choice but to be in those kind of relationships. And so my mission is to be an example,” she expressed.
As passionate as she is with her music career, she is also passionate about her community and young women empowerment everywhere.
“I very much feel like I am what I am today because I saw examples of women who told a different narrative. So it is our duty and our opportunity for all of us who have chosen a different path to make empowered women look cool and trendy and appealing,” said Lira.
She endorses and wears proudly South African clothing because she believes that charity begins at home.
