MAFIKIZOLO SHINES AT THE METROS

Afro Pop sensation Mafikizolo emerged as the biggest winners at the 13th Metro FM Awards hosted at the Durban International Convention Centre on Saturday evening.
The duo scooped the best African pop album, best duo/group and best produced album awards from their latest Reunited album.
Khuli Chana and Uhuru snatched up two awards respectively. Chana, who didn’t attend the 13th edition of the awards, took the best music video and best hit single awards with his Mnatibawen album. Uhuru clinched up the song of the year with the hit single Y-Tjukuja and best collaboration awards.
Robbie Malinga and Kalawa Jazzmee’s Oskido Mdlongwa were honoured with lifetime achievements awards.
MetroFM deejays Phat Joe and Pearl Thusi were the hosts.
Under the theme “Celebrating 20 Years of Beat”, the show kicked off with a moving tribute to the founding father of a democratic South Africa, Nelson Mandela.
Live performances on a stripped down stage with various lightning colours, the audience were brought to their feet by artists and groups such as Zola,Unathi,Thebe,Mafikizo,iFani to mention the few.
With four nominations respectively, the pair of Naima Kay and iFani could not get any accolades.
Earlier on the black carpet, it was all glitz and glamour with celebrities and guests showcasing their fashion. Fans on the other side lining up to catch a glimpse of their favoutites.

Best styled artist: Vusi Nova- Walk Into Light

Best urban jazz album: Nomfundo – Kusile
Best kwaito Album: Character – Self Control
Best male artist: Culoe De Song – Exodus
Best newcomer: Happy – Ahead of Time
Best R’nB album: Danny K – Good Look
Best urban gospel album: Takie Ndou – Palmist
