The Tri Continental Film Festival in partnership with Shamsaan, hosted a special screening of the multi-award winning Radiance of Resistance at Suncoast Casino and Entertainment Worlds’ Cine Centre yesterday.
The movie tells a story of two Palestinian youth activists, Janna Ayyad (11) and Ahed Tamimi (16), that live under military occupation in the village of Nabi Saleh.
Janna Jihad, Ahed Tamimi and their family whose lives are portrayed in the movie were all in attendance.
Jihad, who is dubbed as Palestine’s youngest amateur journalist and the youngest journalist in the world, said that the movie will resonate a feeling of hope.
“It is such a good feeling, because we are sending the message and resisting in our own way and we can show people around the world the truth,” said Jihad.
Jihad hopes that word-of-mouth will spread after watching the movie.
“I hope that people who watch this movie can pass the message and tell their friends and they can become the voice of Palestine,” explained Jihad.
After the movie, children and their families came in front of the audience for a question and answer session where they explained everyday life in their village.
Andrew Dhebideen, owner of NDA Consulting Engineers who was in attendance, said that he felt a lot more educated on what is happening in the country.
“I just hear what’s happening in the country from the news, but after watching the movie and listening to the kids and the family first hand it really gives me a better idea of the suffering that the people of Palestine are going through,” said Dhebideen.
The film festival will make its way to Cape Town, the final destination on the tour on the 15th of August.
