Hip hop heads came out in their numbers to support Morgan Mafu’s first album launch that was held at 6th on Mona Road, on Saturday.
While millions of people across Africa were intrigued by the MTV Base Africa Music Awards, an album launch of a young dedicated South African musician was making his mark. Life By The Beach being Mafu’s first project, written and produced by him under his own record label, highlights the passion that this young artist has.
The full album consists of thirteen tracks that are inspired by the Durban life. “I remember, after every party I attended I somewhat ended up at the beach,” said Mafu.
The launch started with a cypher, initiated by Mafu, then followed by an abundance of talent from other various upcoming artist. Mafu said that he believes that he loves to see other artists grow. The crowd went crazy as the likes of Raheem Kemet and L Mass entered the stage. The audience sang along, danced and enjoyed the atmosphere.
When the man behind everything performed his tracks, the crowd stood up and showed some love. Elder brother Ntuthuko Mafu said, “It is way doper than what was expected. I am very proud of him,” said Ntuthuko as he smiled watching the performance.
“Like any other event there are some hitches but we got over them. We would like to thank everyone who came out, thank you so much,” said an appreciative Mafu.
“The whole event was good, liked the cypher sessions. Seeing Morgan perform was epic,” stated Germano Uamba who performed and later enjoyed listening to the mesmerizing tracks with the audience.
