The Faculty of Health Sciences in partnership with the Gender Forum held their annual fun walk at Curries Fountain Stadium.
The main aim of the walk was for Durban University of Technology staff members from all levels to engage with each other and also exercise in a vibrant and exciting way.
The walk started off at the Curries fountain stadium which is opposite the Riston campus.
Staff members walked past ML Sultan, through the Botanic Gardens and back to the stadium.
The 2 kilometer walk attracted both genders and it was emphasized that it is a walk, not a run.
The different winners were very proud that they took part and met with other colleagues from other departments.
Jaya Naidoo who came first, said that the walk was awesome and urged the organisers to hold this event more than once a year as this is the only time they get to interact with one another outside the work place and have fun.
Naidoo said, “before I was part of the executive committee of the school so I couldn’t take part on previous occasions, but since I’m no longer part of the committee I get to enjoy such extramural activities.”
After the walk participants got to relax, enjoy the massages that were provided by somatology students and indulge in the healthy fruits that were provided.
Dr Jabu Ngobese Ngubane, who lectures on Homeopathy at Riston Campus said, “I feel refreshed and energized and it was nice to be in a different environment with colleagues.”
It wasn’t just all about the walk, as some staff members proved that spring has indeed sprung, by showing off their creative side and making beautiful, colorful and flowery hats that grabbed the attention of onlookers who were cheering on the walkers.
