The annual Vodacom Durban July (VDJ) Preview Fashion Show and Concert was bigger and better than last year’s at Wavehouse, Gateway, on Saturday.
The VDJ Preview Fashion Show lived up to its expectations with former supermodel and businesswoman, Sashi Naidoo and the famous magician Mo of ‘Mo Magic’ on SABC3, as the hosts.
“It was such fun being on stage and doing a little bit of magic,” said Mo.
He said that there were so many different styles and different designs on the ramp, which made it hard to decide his favourite designer for the night but he loved men’s fashion most.
Durban University of Technology fashion student Katekani Moreku, showcased his outfit that won him the finalist spot amongst other 10 young fashion designer students.
“It’s so amazing, I cannot explain the feeling. I feel like somebody need to pinch me and wake me up from this dream, I feel like it is a dream,” said Moreku.
Moreku also added that he came out from nowhere and now he showcases at prestigious fashion shows. He said he was just too happy to finally see his hard work paying off as it felt amazing. Other designers work inspired him that he wished to go back to the studio and work on something new.
Young and upcoming runway model, known as Amanda, was too excited and reckoned the fashion showcase as her biggest highlight thus far.
“It was nerve wrecking but as soon as you step out your foot on the runway, you just feel much better. My favourite designer was Zarth by Zama,” said runway model Amanda.
During the concert the crowd was entertained by big names in the entertainment industry such as the likes of Tresor, Da Les, Sketchy Bongo and other upcoming musicians.
Fashion designers showcased their garments alongside big designer names of the fashion industry; the likes of Thula Sindi, Terrence Bray, Kathrin Kidger and Sibu Msimang just to name the few.
