Vintage swag was the name of the game at this month’s Dance2Fame competition.
Dance 2 Fame is a dance competition that is held every month at Ushaka Marine World. The event brings together people from different walks of life and unites them through one art form.
The event drew in a bigger crowed as they go into their second month of the competition and familiar faces came back for a second time to win the grand cash prize.
The dance event expanded its sponsors with ABSA added to their list. Hype man Haeze’s signature tune for the day was “ABSA money on my mind”. The presenters encouraged the youth to open bank accounts and held a tongue twister competition called “ballin on a budget” where the winners won Ushaka’s Wet and Wild tickets.
There have been a few crews that came back for the second time. Glitchbots who was in the top three in last month’s competition have changed their name to Flow 3 1.
At the end of an entertainment filled day, the top three crews were Cyber Links, The Survivors and Matrix’s Aviators. All three crews danced brilliantly and entertained the crowd in different ways but there had to be one winner. Last month’s winners, The Survivors, took the crown for a second time.
In an interview with the two-time winners, the crew said that “It feels absolutely amazing to win dance to fame for the second time although we do not consider ourselves the best dance crew in Durban. We just dance for people to see and appreciate. We are just the winners for now.”
The humble threesome started their crew in April 2013 and have been dancing together ever since. They maintained that “god is our secret”. The talented crew resides at Inanda and members are aged between 19-23.
The hosts Julia Estelle and Hype man Haeze held their second interactive dance with the crowed by kicking it old school with the Casper Slide. The funky interactive dance was recorded and posted online in an effort to expand the d2f brand. Guest appearances from MTV Base VJ search top three competitor Wandi dc1 joined in the dance and showed the crowed how to rock it out.
Illusion DC, a dance crew that competed in event said, “We initially heard about the competition through word of mouth and decided to join forces with a rival crew to compete in the event and it has been an incredible experience.”
