The South African Tertiary Institution Choral Association (SATICA) held its award ceremony at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) on the evening of the 09th July to end the week-long competition with a bang.
DUT was the host university of the 2017 SATICA competition that took place from the 03rd July until Sunday evening of the 09th July.
DUT scooped two of their nominated awards. The team was ecstatic to win the awards but would have loved to win the overall award.
“I am proud to be part of such an exciting event. We don’t have a lot of these events lined up so competing with other universities and doing what we love really is a great experience and I hope we have more of these,” said Sithembiso Masinga one of DUT’s choir participants.
The musical competition price giving ceremony saw North West University winning the overall competition. They took the platinum award on Sunday evening with beaming excitement. The crowd rowed with excitement when the winner was announced.
Ketso Mohlale one of the NWU participant’s couldn’t keep his excitement hidden when he broke down as he spoke about the overall experience.
“This have been a wonderful experience for me especially cause it’s my first time here I feel ecstatic and thank you to my team for being such wonderful people; this have been a great adventure,” Mohlala added.
Other winners of the competition included the University of Limpopo taking the Solo win, the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) for best dress code and programme director. The DUT took African and came second in the solo performance.
SATICA organises music workshops and seminars throughout the year, the highlight being the annual competition which is held during the July vacation period.
